KRXQ Sacramento Radio Hosts Encourage Violence Against Transgender Children by Michael Rowe
Even by the flexible moral, ethical, and professional standards of American talk radio, the May 28th segment of KRXQ 98.5 FM Sacramento's Rob, Arnie, & Dawn in the Morning radio talk show makes for a sickening half-hour of ugliness and cruelty. For once, the focus was not LGBT adults, but minors. The hosts, Rob Williams and Arnie States, devoted the segment in question to a vicious diatribe against transgender children, some as young as five, focusing in particular on the case of one Omaha family raising a gender dysphoric child, and their decision to support her transition from male to female.
Williams and States took turns referring to gender dysphoric children as "idiots" and "freaks," who were just out "for attention" and had "a mental disorder that just needs to somehow be gotten out of them," either by verbal abuse on the part of the parents, or even shock therapy.
"Allowing transgenders to exist, pretty soon it becomes normal to fall in love with the animals," they said.
( It gets worse... )
The general manager of KRXQ is John Geary, and he can be reached at (916) 339-4209, or via email at jgeary@entercom.com

2:16 am - Olbermann/Hannity waterboarding drama comes to a close!
|
Apparently midwestern right-wing radio host Mancow Muller volunteered to "get a little water poured in his face" to prove it's not torture. I'm sure you can guess how it went, but here's the video anyway. It's quite amusing to see how much that Army vet enjoys doing it to him.
As a result, Olbermann has retracted his original offer to Sean Hannity and donated the promised money to "Veterans of Valor" on Mancow's behalf instead.

Well, the first official review of the film adaptation of "The Road" is UP!
I'm now considerably less skeptical about it - this review definitely gave me some hope, and I am officially excited. I even looked up some pictures of the abandoned Pennsylvania Turnpike where they filmed some of it...looks spot-fuckin'-on to me.
If any of you haven't read it, I'd highly, highly recommend it; it's unlike anything I've ever read before. But do not, I repeat, DO NOT read it right before you go to bed. In fact, when the film does come out, I'll probably go to the earliest available show, preferably on a sunny and beautiful day.

So can we all agree to a Pee Wee's Playhouse-type thing where everyone does a wacky scream every time somebody says "swine flu"?

2:47 pm - Best Pic roundup...
|
So "Button" is the only best picture nominee I haven't seen. I don't care who wins, as long as it's not "Slumdog." No, it wasn't BAD, it just wasn't great. I don't understand the hype around that movie.
"The Reader" was incredibly intense. Fortunately, I didn't know that much about it when I walked in to the theatre, so I think that added to the intensity. I knew about the "woman in her 30's has affair with 15-year-old" thing, but I wasn't prepared for...that BIG thing. Great movie, but don't expect to leave smiling.
"Milk" was awesome. Sean Penn didn't completely Sean Penn-ify the role, which is what I was most apprehensive about walking into it. Brolin was also very impressive. And I'm so proud of myself for not crying at the end.
"Frost/Nixon" was wonderful. So much going on, so much drama...the dynamic between the two was so well done. And everyone gasped at the climax, even though we all knew it was coming.
But I'm sure Slumdog will win. Sigh.

11:10 pm - What...the...fuck.
|
Okay, so, the NY Post recently posted this cartoon, and claims it's "a clear parody" and not at all racist.
Honestly, seriously, really...if it's not a racist jab, how the hell else is this cartoon supposed to be interpreted? Both Kevin and I are trying to play Devil's Advocate with this one, but we're both stumped. I really cannot believe they published this piece of shit.
But then again, it's the fucking Post.

11:25 pm - ...AND THE PROM'S TOMORROW!!!
|
For those of you who haven't heard the awful news, a live-action American version of "Akira" is set for release in 2011. I'm sure you can all imagine what a mind-bogglingly awful trainwreck (motorcycle wreck?) it is going to be.
But at least people are making funny parodies already.

12:30 am - Quick movie announcement...
|
At the behest of A.O. Scott's glowing review in the NY Times, tonight I saw Wendy and Lucy. Sure enough, I cried on and off all throughout the movie. I cried in the bathroom, I cried on the subway, and then when I got home I couldn't even describe it to Kevin without bursting into tears yet again. It was so minimalist, but at the same time I think that's part of the reason it hit me so freakin' hard. Blatantly spelling things out would have ruined everything.
If it weren't for WALL-E, this movie would be my #1 of the year. If you get a chance, go see it. Yes, it's incredibly depressing, but definitely worth a view.

Hope everyone who celebrates Christmas enjoyed it yesterday. I made out like a bandit and have been watching my new "Black Books" DVD's all morning. It's the funniest show ever and I can't believe nobody's heard of it. Here, watch some clips. And last night I started in on "My Custom Van" by Michael Ian Black and the first essay has thus far been the funniest. IT'S A BLACK CHRISTMAS!!!
Also, I've been having some really weird dreams lately. Different dreams, but recurring themes and people. Hmmm.
